Citizen Action of NY Hosts Press Conference to Advocate for Fed. Programs & Shed Light on Billionaires' Tax Cuts
CORNING, NY (WENY) -- On Tuesday April 15th, not even rain, snow, or extreme wind gusts could stop some people in Corning from advocating to keep federal programs. People gathered outside of Congressman Nick Langworthy's Corning office to talk about the importance of keeping things like SNAP and Medicaid, but also to shed light on tax cuts for the wealthy.
"We’re here to say that we believe Nick Langworthy needs to be here working for the people, working people of the Southern Tier, rather than New York’s billionaires... It’s very important for community members to make the connection between the tax cuts for the super wealthy and the services that our communities depend on," said Ursula Rozum, the health campaign manager for Citizen Action of New York.
WENY reached out to Rep. Langworthy's office but he wasn't available for comment. Rep. Langworthy represents New York's 23rd Congressional District.
Rozum said they had the press conference on Tax Day (April 15th), for a reason.
"As people are going to file their taxes, we think it's really important to highlight that billionaires in New York have gotten richer and that our public services are under threat. We need Congress to stop the tax cuts for the rich and protect our care," said Rozum.
Rozum encourages people to reach out to their local representatives' offices to push to keep federal programs that communities need.
