HARRISBURG, P.A. (WENY) -- Around 2:00 A.M. on Friday, the Harrisburg Bureau of Fire responded to a fire report at the Governor's Residence in Harrisburg. Pennsylvania State Police are actively investigating but have said they believe this was an act of arson.

Multiple agencies responded to the property on North Front Street and successfully extinguished the fire that officials say caused significant damage to a portion of the residence.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and his family were home at the time of the fire but were in a different part of the home. State police say they were evacuated safely and not injured.

As of 10:00 A.M. Friday, state officials say Troop H of the PSP are currently on scene leading a multi-agency investigation.

The Governor's Office also released a statement from Governor Shapiro that says as follows:

"Last night at about 2AM, my family and I woke up to bangs on the door from the Pennsylvania State Police after an arsonist set fire to the Governor’s Residence in Harrisburg. The Harrisburg Bureau of Fire was on the scene and while they worked to put out the fire, we were evacuated from the Residence safely by Pennsylvania State Police and assisted by Capitol Police. Thank God no one was injured and the fire was extinguished. Every day, we stand with the law enforcement and first responders who run towards danger to protect our communities. Last night, they did so for our family – and Lori and I are eternally grateful to them for keeping us safe. Pennsylvania State Police is on the scene leading this investigation and will keep the public updated."

Police say there is a reward of up to $10,000 being offered through PSP Tips for anyone who helps with the arrest and conviction of the individual(s) responsible for this act. Anyone with information should call 1-800-4PA TIPS (1-800-472-8477).

State police also share that no additional information will be released at this time. However, the investigation will be moving quickly and details will be provided as appropriate.
