Chemung Co. Humane Society and SPCA to pause some operations for facility maintenance

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- The Chemung County Humane Society and SPCA will soon temporarily suspend cat and dog intake.
Starting May 5, renovations will begin to upgrade housing units to meet New York State's new Companion Animal Standards of Care Act. They say the work should be wrapped up by May 16.
During this time, the facility will not be accepting cats or dogs due to noise and air quality concerns. However, administrative and clinic services will stay open.
Officials say these updates are necessary to comply with the law, and improve animal care. Because of the upcoming work, the shelter said adoption fees on all cats and dogs one year and older are waived for the time being.
