DEC announces work to resume at City of Ithaca Superfund site in May
ITHACA, N.Y. (WENY) -- The New York Department of Environmental Conservation announced on Thursday, April 10th that work is set to resume at a 60 acre superfund site in the City of Ithaca in May. The site sits on the old Emerson Power Transmission location, which closed back in 2011, on S. Aurora St.
The location has been classified as a Class 2 site by New York, meaning it represents a potential risk to people and or the environment. To keep workers and neighbors safe during the work, which is expected to last about three months, air monitoring and dust and odor suppression systems will be installed.
Once work is finished, the DEC says a plan will be put in place for redevelopment of the site, which would include space for residential, commercial and industrial uses.
