ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Chemung County is offering residents free vaccination against the measles.

The Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) vaccine is recommended for both children who need to finish their two dose series or adults who may have never been vaccinated.

The measles virus is highly contagious respiratory disease that causes a rash and fever, and spreads when an infected person coughs or sneezes.

The shots are available at the Chemung County Health Department located at 103 Washington St. in Elmira.

Appointments are required in advance. You can schedule one by calling 607-737-2488. They are available regardless of insurance.
