TOMPKINS COUNTY, N.Y. (WENY) -- Tompkins County is hosting its third annual "I Voted" sticker contest.

Students in grades sixth through twelfth are allowed to participate in the contest. The designs must have a local theme, include the colors red, white and blue and include the phrase "I Voted", according to Tompkins County.

“Since this year’s focus is on local elections, we are encouraging students to come up with patriotic designs that highlight local themes and landmarks.” said Alanna Congdon, the Republican Elections Commissioner for Tompkins County, “A big Thank You goes out to the teachers and parents who use this opportunity to help students learn about local elections and civic engagement.”

The stickers will be handed out to voters on Election Day.

Students in grades kindergarten through fifth can also participate in the "Future Voter" sticker contest. Those will be handed out to children who accompany adult family members at the polls.

“We have seen great participation last year, especially with the added 'Future Voter’ category. We look forward to the creative artwork students will develop this year. Poll workers enjoy handing out election stickers with the winning designs to voters and their families,” said Stephen DeWitt, the Democratic Elections Commissioner.

After all submissions are received, the Board of Elections will will select up to six finalists in each category that will be voted on by the public.

Submissions will be accepted until May 26. More contest rules and details on how to submit designs can be found here.
