Elmira Downtown Development hosts annual Taste of Downtown fundraiser
ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Elmira Downtown Development hosted its 'Taste of Downtown' event Wednesday night at Empire Sports in Elmira. The fundraiser had a '90s theme, recognizing the organization's 35th year.
"Everybody's having fun," said Elmira Downtown Development Executive Director Kylene Kiah, "They're dancing, we have DJ Stro, we have thirteen food vendors, we have some drink vendors, and we're just having a good time with the raffles, auction, wine pull, all of it!"
Organizers said the night was meant to be full of nostalgia and fun. As well as give people the chance to relive the '90s and fundraise in an exciting way.
Taste of Downtown included local food, drinks, and a live DJ playing classic '90s music. The event gave people the chance to try food from over a dozen local businesses. Vendors and organizers said the event was a success, and they hope it brings attention to different places to eat in Elmira.
"So far it's been really interesting because all new faces you see and people keep asking about the restaurant so it's nice to represent our restaurant to other people that [have] never tasted it," said Akan, who was at the event tabling for 'Rye Bar' and their sister company 'The Garage.'
The proceeds from Wednesday's fundraiser go toward the Elmira Street Painting Festival, which is happening June 8 and 9. Kiah said the upcoming festival will be free, thanks to the people who bought tickets to Wednesday's event, along with the generous sponsors.
