United Way of the Southern Tier names new CEO

CORNING, N.Y. (WENY) -- The United Way of the Southern Tier announced Tuesday that the organization has hired a new Chief Executive Officer.
Maleaha Smith is the first woman to lead the agency in it's 32-year history. She has been with the United Way since 2015.
"I am truly honored to lead the United Way of the Southern Tier as we collaborate with our community partners to build pathways for individuals and families to succeed," said Smith. "Together, we will continue to tackle the most urgent needs in our communities and work toward a brighter and more promising future for all."
Smith has a background in business and non-profit management, according to the organization.
Her appointment to CEO follows the retirement of the United Way's long-time leader Stephen Hughes. He retired after serving 11 years as CEO and spent nearly 17 years with the organization.
