Trout Season Open in New York State
MILLPORT, N.Y. (WENY) -- The cold weather wasn't stopping anyone from getting out for the first day of Trout Season in New York State and if you took a trip on Route 14 this morning along Catherine Creek, it was hard to miss all the cars parked along the roadside near the creek.
The Trout Unlimited Catherine Creek Chapter was greeting folks as they made their firsts casts of the season, in addition to offering up membership applications, hats for sale, and some free fishing flies. Catherine Creek is one of many local waterways with several public fishing access areas.
Cayuta Creek, Meads Creek, Sing Sing Creek, Post Creek, Cohocton River, and Cayuga Inlet are among several public fishing waterways that are now stocked.
On Thursday, both Eldridge Lake and Park Station will be freshly stocked for the season.
"We will be stocking and tomorrow we have our meeting for April. We also run some Eldridge stockings and in the previous days we did an Eldridge cleanup," remarked Tyler Young of Trout Unlimited.
A reminder that Eldridge lake stocking takes place on Thursday at 9:30 in the morning.
Statewide Trout season in the Keystone State officially begins this Saturday April 5th.
NYSDEC has an interactive map of fishing locations and stocked streams that you can visit during the season.
