Calling green thumbs: making sure everyone can garden who wants to

ITHACA, N.Y. (WENY) -- The Ithaca Children's Garden is looking to raise $54,000 this April in a bid to make the garden accessible to all children. According to the garden the money will help give scholarships to over 100 local families.
To help towards that goal the garden is hosting a Volunteer Day on Earth Day, which falls on April 22nd this year, where people can donate their money, time and energy to the garden. Also happening is the Dafodil Dash, which is a family friendly run, walk or stroll, through Cass Park on April 26th. While not a direct fundraiser, there will be chances to contribute to the scholarship fundraiser during the race.
The fundraiser comes at a perfect time, with Cornell University announcing on Monday, March 31st that the winter weather helped excellent conditions this spring for flowering and fruit plants. Specifically the winter was not too cold to damage roots, but not to warm to create early blooms.
Officials with the Children's Garden say a single donation has already raised $27,000. If you want to contribute, please visit here.
