(WENY) -- Saturday, March 29, is National Vietnam War Veterans Day and some local events are planned to honor those who served.

March 29 is the day the last remaining American combat troops in Vietnam left the country and United States Military Assistance Command, Vietnam was disestablished, according to the United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration.

The day was established by the Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act of 2017 which was signed by President Donald Trump.

Veterans will be honored in the Twin Tiers in a wreath laying ceremony at Woodlawn National Cemetery in Elmira on Saturday at 9 a.m. There will be a second wreath laying at the Vietnam Memorial in Eldridge Park in Elmira at 10 a.m.

An event will also be held at the Vietnam Memorial outside the Tioga County, New York, Courthouse in Owego at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The public, veterans and others are invited to attend these events.
