WASHINGTON, D.C. - New York Congressman Nick Langworthy (R- NY) shares the Social Security Administration office in Horseheads, NY will not be closing. He confirmed this information following the Department of Government Efficiency listing that the lease for that office would be terminated.

Here is the full statement from the Congressman:

"There has been a lot of misinformation, but I want to set the record straight based on confirmation directly from the SSA that the Horseheads office will not be closing, nor will there be any reductions in staff. They are simply terminating the lease of an additional space that was once used for hearings and is no longer needed. Terminating this lease for unused space will have zero impact on the office’s operations, but it will save taxpayer dollars that are being wasted on an empty space. I will always fight to protect seniors’ Social Security benefits and accessibility to this critical federal office, but it’s important to separate the facts from the fiction and those who want to advance their political agenda.”

On the Hill, Senate Democrats said about 60 percent of regional SSA offices are on the chopping block as part of the administration’s efforts to shrink the government. Senator Chuck Schumer (D- NY) is attacking DOGE and the administration for trying to cancel these offices. He said these benefits are a lifeline to those who need it for things like food, medicine and rent.

"They’re making it hard as possible for you to get your benefits by closing offices and putting up red tape,” said Sen. Schumer. “Social Security was already at the lowest levels in 50 years, now they want to fire seven thousand more workers. That means when you call and need help or checks are snafued, there’s no one there to help.”

We also reached out to the White House on the SSA office closures. Their Press Secretary sent us this message: “Any American receiving Social Security benefits will continue to receive them. The sole mission of DOGE is to identify waste, fraud and abuse only.”
