Mansfield University to upgrade track and field complex in $4M renovation

MANSFIELD, PA. (WENY) -- Mansfield University of Pennsylvania is renovating the Karl Van Norman Field and Maxson Track stadium complex in a $4 million project.
According to Mansfield University, new artificial turf will be installed at Van Norman Field, Maxson Track will be resurfaced, and upgraded stadium seating will be installed.
"This renovation is about providing Mountaineer student-athletes with a modern facility, while giving coaches a powerful tool in recruiting talent," said Dr. Gretchen Sechrist, Mansfield Campus Administrator. "We are excited to see this project come to life and the lasting impact it will have on our teams and community."
The seats date back to the stadiums original construction in 1964, according to the school. The current track was installed in 2012, while the artificial turf has been in place since 2013.
The project is expected to begin in Spring of 2026, with completion scheduled before the start of the 2026 Fall athletic system.
Mansfield says they are looking for donors to sponsor additional upgrades at the complex, including a new press box, scoreboard and upgraded team facilities. In anyone is interested in making a donation to support the projects, the school is asking you to reach out to Kate Billmeyer by calling (570)-204-2052 or emailing kbillmeyer@cu-mansfield.org.
