Local businesses prepare for fourth annual 'ChewMUNG' Restaurant Week
ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Chemung County's "ChewMUNG" Restaurant Week is returning for a fourth year. The annual event kicks off Sunday, March 23rd, and will last through Saturday, March 29th.
"What I love about "ChewMUNG" Restaurant Week is really that it celebrates all of us that are in the business that are locally owned that provide some really great experiences for people do dine here in Elmira and the Horseheads area," said Michael Sullivan, Owner of Hill Top Inn in Elmira.
Hill Top Inn has been in Sullivan's family for over 90 years, and he has participated in Restaurant Week in the past. He says he enjoys participating in these types of events put on by the Chemung County Chamber of Commerce because it allows people to try something new.
"So I think this opportunity allows us to feature some different things, so we are featuring a prix fixe menu this week, and so it gives people really a different dining experience and so sometimes yeah," Sullivan said, adding "Sometimes people like to come up and try a different dining experience than what they're used to every week."
Hill Top Inn is just one of 18 businesses participating in this year's event. The Rye Bar on Davis Street in Elmira has participated in the event since the first year in 2022.
"The last couple of years that we've done it we've definitely seen people come in to experience different restaurants," said Liz, the General Manager at the Rye Bar. "Some people that have never been with us before. And with The Garage being a new restaurant it's good to get them out there as well," she added, referring to an extension of Rye Bar, located right next door.
"Personally, I am looking forward to trying out some of the other restaurants," Liz said.
