ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- It was an exciting afternoon for LECOM students as they learned their new assignments at today's Match Day ceremony at Elmira College.

The second Match Day for LECOM at Elmira College served as a momentous occasion for these future doctors and their families.

100% of LECOM students left today's ceremony with a match, marking the next step in their medical careers. Each student learned of their residency programs and disciplines that they'll soon be a part of.

"I'm so proud of my colleagues. Um, it's just such a heartwarming moment, such a special moment in everyone's life right now. You know, it's their first real position as a doctor and it truly is great. And I'm so happy for everyone," remarked David Stpnowski, who matched with Emergency Medicine at SUNY Upstate Medical.

Over the past year, students at LECOM have endured a long process full of applications, interviews, and waiting for responses. Matches were met with applause, hugs from family, and feelings of validation.

"It's always very difficult to explain all the work that's being done in medical school and you see all, like, the social media videos of us studying but actually doing it and getting through and finally getting, you know, our specialties picked out, our jobs picked out. It's just exciting to be done and I feel like it's going to be a rewarding career and I'm looking forward to, you know, treating patients finally as a doctor," said Yelizaveta Rozenfeld, who matched with psychiatry at Rochester General Hospital.
