VAN ETTEN, N.Y. (WENY) -- Multiple fire departments responded to a house fire on Wyncoop Creek Road in Van Etten, Chemung County on Friday, March 21st, that first responders say could have been much worse. That's because first responders say multiple people were in the home when the fire started, but were alerted to the fire by a neighbor who saw the blaze, and helped them get out. 

Fire officials say the cause of the fire is under investigation.
