ALBANY, N.Y. (WENY) -- Several state parks, trails, and historic sites across New York State will receive a collective $1.7 million in grants to promote outdoor recreation and sustaining park spaces.

"We're grateful for Governor Hochul and the unplug and play program especially, to have put this into the budget, to then make sure that these grants are taken advantage of so that every year we continue to set new records in terms of visitation patrons and so on," stated John Craig of NY Parks Public Affairs.

The Finger Lakes Trail Conference is gaining nearly $27,000 to strengthen local partnerships and promote sustainability within the organization. The FLT is a statewide hiking trail that spans from Niagara Falls and Allegany State Park to the Slide Mountain Wilderness.

The FLTC promotes and maintains the over 1,000 mile long trail, which runs through communities in Steuben, Schuyler, and Tompkins counties.

Sonnenberg Gardens and Mansion State Historic Park in Canandaigua will also receive $18,000 for interpretive signage installations.

IMPACT, also known as Friends Improving Allegany County Trails will receive nearly $100,000 to improve accessibility on trails for equestrians, hikers, and cross-country skiers located in the Phillips Creek and Turnpike State Forests.
