Police: Towanda man arrested for brandishing gun, yelling racial slurs outside bar

TOWANDA, PA. (WENY) -- A Towanda man was arrested for allegedly yelling racial slurs and brandishing a gun after getting kicked out of a bar in the Borough.
According to a criminal complaint, 51-year-old Brian Kithcart was drinking at a Bridge St. bar with his girlfriend on March 15 and started yelling racial obscenities. He was asked to leave the premises, and two African Americans left the bar as well behind him.
Kithcart then allegedly pulled a gun on the pair and cocked it. He then walked home with his girlfriend, which is about a block from the bar.
Officers who responded to the bar after the incident spoke with Kithcart and his girlfriend shortly before they arrived on scene. They say he was aggressive towards them and obviously intoxicated, according to the criminal complaint.
After speaking with witnesses, police say they returned to Kithcart, who they say matched the description they were given. He was siting on his porch. According to officers, Kithcart threw a gun that was on his lap inside the house when they approached him.
Officers tried to take him into custody, but Kitchcart allegedly resisted their commands, pushing and pulling away from law enforcement as they tried to put him in handcuffs.
Once police had him in custody, they recovered the gun, which was loaded and is registered to someone else, according to the criminal complaint.
As a result, Kithcart is charged with Aggravated Assault, Prohibited Possession of a Firearm, Resisting Arrest, Terroristic Threats, two counts of Simple Assault, two counts of Disorderly Conduct and Public Drunkenness.
He is currently in the Bradford County Jail without bail. Kithcart is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on March 26.
