ELMIRA, NY (WENY) -- An event happening next weekend helps to support local medical students receiving their medical education at LECOM in Elmira.

The Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) at Elmira will host its annual Casino Night fundraiser on March 29th, at the LECOM Event Center.

The event raises money for the LECOM Student Scholarship Fund. School leaders say last year, LECOM was able to provide about $400,000 dollars to students in Elmira in the form of scholarships. LECOM students tell WENY News the scholarship funding helps to alleviate some of the financial burden of attending medical school, so they can focus on their studies.

"That's the gameplan, getting excellent students to come here, do their medical school and hopefully residency and practice, yes. And that's what this casino night is about, to support students to come here," said Dr. Richard Terry, DO, Associate Dean of Medical Education at LECOM at Elmira.

The Casino Night event features table games, a buffet dinner, silent auction, live entertainment and dancing. Activities begin at 6PM.

Tickets are $150, and can be purchased here: https://lecom.schoolauction.net/2025casinonight/

For those who can't attend, direct donations can also be made through the website.
