Person rescued from Six Mile Creek Gorge in Ithaca

ITHACA, N.Y. (WENY) -- A person was airlifted to the hospital after being rescued from the Six Mile Creek Gorge in Ithaca on Saturday night.
The Ithaca Fire Department says they were called out about 5:30 p.m. for a report of a person who had fallen into the creek and was injured. Upon arrival, firefighters say they located the injured person about 100 yards downstream from the dam. First responders used multiple rope systems to rescue the person.
Paramedics were able to treat the victim on scene and transported him to a helicopter, where they say he was flown to a regional trauma center for care.
The fire department urges people to stay on sanctioned trails, staying out of the water, and knowing where you are in case you need help.
