Hornell rape charge leads to arrest of Hungarian National at Newark Airport

HORNELL, N.Y. (WENY) -- The Steuben County District Attorney's Office announced on Friday, March 14th that a 54-year-old Hungarian national was arrested at Newark Airport on charges that he raped a child in Hornell. According to Steuben County D.A. Brooks Baker, Mihaly Bodnay is currently being held in New Jersey pending extradition to Steuben County.
“This is the way law-enforcement is supposed to work - together. Using experience and expertise to maximize all available resources City, County and Federal agencies
were able to take a child predator off the streets to face justice,” said Baker.
The D.A.'s office singled out Hornell Police Investigator Tom Aini for setting up witness interviews and quickly following leads, helping lead to an arrest warrant for Rape in the First Degree. The D.A.'s Office said that Bodnay had no connection to come back to Hornell, and there was no expectation that he would ever return on his own accord.
Authorities say Bodnay was eventually located in the New York City area through his cell phone usage before being taken into custody by homeland security at Newark Airport. Baker says that Bodnay faces up to 25 years in prison.
