Spring is just around the corner, and the team behind Build Better Fields is ramping up for baseball season.

Founded just last year, Build Better Fields is dedicated to rehabilitating run-down and neglected baseball fields across the region.

A field at J.S. Wilson Middle School has been completely redone with support from in-kind sponsors, and the organization is halfway through renovating a baseball field in Belle Valley that still needs improved drainage.

The founders are pleased with the attention and support they’ve received so far, but they need more help to keep going.

"Wearing these logos around town people will just come up to you anywhere you're at, 'Oh, I remember playing there, I'd love to support,' and next thing you know, we get a $500 check in the mail," said Rob Cacchione, co-founder.

"We've had in kind support from a lot of great companies here in town - over $40,0000 in donations," said Kyle Bohrer, co-founder. "We completed J.S. Wilson with those. We have a little left to do with Belle Valley, so we have to keep working hard."

So far, the focus has been on fields for players under 12, but their work is just beginning. You can learn more about Build Better Fields and how to support their efforts on The Insider on WICU and WSEE next weekend.

The organization now has 501(c)(3) status, making donations tax-deductible.
