SOUTHPORT, N.Y. (WENY) -- The Elmira First Church of the Nazarene is aiming to make a difference in the community with their Blessing Boutique.  It's a free community closet designed to those in need with clothing and essentials.

The Blessing Boutique is stocked with gently used clothes, shoes, coats, boots, bedding, and other essentials for both children and adults. It is open every Wednesday from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the downstairs area of the church. The program is run by volunteers, and everyone is welcome to stop by and take what they need, free of charge. To make sure resources are available for as many people as possible, visitors are allowed to take items once a month.

"Just to meet the needs of our neighbors. that we have a donation bin on the property. So we receive donations locally and we want to keep the donations local as possible. And so if we've got the resources to help people and people have the need, we try to get the two put together," said Heather Brown, the lead pastor at the Elmira First Church of the Nazarene.

Last year, the Blessing Boutique was able to help over 2,000 people in the community.  For those interested in contributing, the church has a donation shed located behind the building. The shed is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and all donated items go toward restocking the Blessing Boutique.
