ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Magic came to Empire Sports of the Southern Tier in Elmira and brought the wizarding world to life. On Sunday, people of all ages enjoyed the Whimsical Winter Market, a Harry Potter-themed vendor experience.

The pages of the infamous book series, Harry Potter, came to life with two events this weekend in the Southern Tier. Girl Friday Creative Events hosted a Wizards Ball on Friday and Sunday's Whimsical Winter Market to give fans of the franchise two different kinds of experiences.

Girl Friday Creative Events organized the event and had help from sponsors such as Woofs Wags & Wiggles, Finger Lakes Financial Group, and more.

Sunday's event saw over 30 vendors setting up shop with their best handmade trinkets for fans of all ages to be able to soak up the magic.

"The building itself, it just speaks for itself," said Stephanie Saunders, the event coordinator. "It makes you feel like you're in that magical world when you walk inside. It was, when I walked in for the first time, it was the perfect place to have this event."

This marks the second year in a row that Girl Friday Creative Events, owned by Saunders, hosted the Whimsical Winter Market and provided opportunities to try a variety of wizarding activities.

Kids could try their hands at an owl hunt, families could take photos in front of magical backdrops, and everyone could grab a cup of butterbeer just like the characters in the series.

Additionally, a raffle was held at the front door for various baskets filled with Harry Potter goods. Some of the proceeds from the raffle helped benefit Runway for a Cause.

However, the biggest part of the day was walking from vendor to vendor for a spellbinding shopping experience. One of the hits of the day was wand shopping.

"It's something where we do this because we love it," said Greg Laslo, the founder and senior wandmaker from Hungarian Wand Shop. "We don't do it because it's something we need to do and we need to sell, so, obviously, we have more than one generation here helping us. It's just, like I said, it's great to meet people who have the same passion and then you watch them go through the process of picking a wand. It's like that little bit of magic each one of them gets."

To allow people to fully delve into the experience, Saunders says she had some help from Lovely Little Rentals with decorating each corner of the room to fit the Harry Potter theme. Additionally, Montour Falls Tea Company provided snacks, butterbeer, and a variety of other specially themed drinks for the event.

These efforts and contributions did not go unnoticed by attendees.

"I think it's cool because it's like arts and crafts homemade," said Camden, a young attendee. "Also, it just seems quite cool how it was put together with all of it."

Some guests say there was something for everyone to do and, for big fans of the franchise, the details added to the experience for everyone.

"It's one of those franchises that transcends generation," said Saunders. "So you see kids into it, but then also with my generation was kind of when it was first a thing and you know it's just beloved and people just really like it."

Saunders added that she received a lot of positive feedback from guests and they can't wait to host the wizarding event next year. For those who may have missed this year's events, she says the events will be split up next year to give more people the chance to enter the wizarding world.

The next event organized by Girl Friday Creative Events will be Halfway to Halloween on April 26. To gather more details on that event or if you want to learn more about future pop-culture events in the area, you can check out the Girl Friday Creative Events Facebook page.
