Horseheads woman charged for allegedly using fraud to get $15,000 in SNAP Benefits

HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) -- A 51-year-old Horseheads woman has been arrested on Welfare Fraud charges and more after authorities say she received roughly $15,000 in SNAP Benefits that she wasn't eligible for. According to the Elmira Police Department, Christa Rubin committed fraud when she completed four applications for public assistance with the Chemung County Department of Social Services.
In the process of filing those applications, police say Rubin did not report her household income as was required. Along with fraud, Rubin has also been charged with Petit Larceny and four counts of Offering a False Instrument for Filing.
