HORNELL, N.Y. (WENY) -- Some fire equipment in Hornell is getting a much needed upgrade.

The City of Hornell announced the arrival of Engine 83, an E-One Pumper. It cost of $743,152, paid for with a combination of reserve funds, unrestricted fund balance and borrowing. The truck is going to replace a older truck from 2005.

The Hornell Fire Department says the new truck brings significant advancements, particularly in safety and efficiency.

“This pumper incorporates 20 years’ worth of improvements, especially in accident protection. It also features technological upgrades, such as automatic pumps and shifters, which improve both efficiency and safety when responding to a fire,” said Chief Frank Brzozowski.

The truck is expected to be fully operational by the end of the week. A second truck is planned to arrive in 2026, replacing an older one from 1997.
