Elmira College gets grant to buy new simulators for nursing students
ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Elmira College has received a $150,000 grant to improve its nursing program.
The money comes from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation's Healthcare Workforce program. The college will use the funding to buy three new high-fidelity simulators for students to use. The simulators are life-size mannequins that can simulate medical situations like a heart attack, giving birth and other illnesses. The mannequins can even talk to students, giving them hands-on experiences in providing care.
The high-fidelity simulators will replace ones that Elmira College purchased for students to use in 2014 as part of the college's simulation center in Cowles Hall.
"This grant could not have been awarded at a better time, since the current high-fidelity simulators were nearing the end of their life expectancy," said Milissa Volino, Director of Nurse Education at Elmira College. "We look forward to the new simulators and appreciate the financial support from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation's Healthcare Workforce program grant to enhance our simulation program to offer experiences in spiritual care, a necessary component of holistic care."
LECOM medical students will also be able to use the new simulators, according to Elmira College.
