BATH, N.Y. (WENY) -- The Village of Bath announced on Wednesday, January 29th that the Board of Trustees has made a conditional offer to Donald Lewis, who is currently employed by the Steuben County Sheriff's Office, to become the department's chief of police. The position has been vacant since the start of January, when the retirement of the previous chief went into effect. 

Lewis is currently a criminal investigator and assistant SWAT commander with the Sheriffs Office, having worked there since 1998. Lewis also previously worked as a part time officer with the Village of Bath from 2003 to 2008. 

The offer is contingent on Lewis successfully passing the civil service exam and a background check.
