SOUTHPORT, N.Y. (WENY) -- Hundreds of first responders and community members attended memorial services at a funeral home in Southport Monday night to honor a fallen firefighter.
Firefighter and rescue captain Roger Lathrop died following a medical emergency during a mutual aid response to a structure fire in Sullivan Township on Jan. 23.

Lathrop was a member of the Big Elm Volunteer Fire Company in Daggett, which serves the townships of Jackson, Wells, and Rutland, along with the borough of Roseville in Tioga County.

According to his obituary, Lathrop leaves behind a wife, who he was married to for 30 years, and three children. He was an avid volunteer firefighter and EMT, who had many other hobbies like hunting and motorcycle riding.
Several fire departments from across the Twin Tiers showed up at his calling hours Monday night.

Flags are currently being flown at half-staff in public buildings and lands across Tioga County, Pennsylvania in honor of Lathrop. They will not fly full-staff again until he is buried.
For those who missed the calling hours Monday, additional visitation will be held Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Olthof Funeral Home in Southport.
His funeral will take place after visitation hours conclude Tuesday. Lathrop will be buried in a private family service at a later date.
