Man sentenced for killing Elmira man, attacking another in 2018

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- The man convicted of killing an Elmira man and then attacking a woman will spend over 45 years behind bars for the crime.
In May of 2018, James Lee, 51, attacked two people at a home on Oak St. in Elmira. He killed Shida Gilliam and then tried to kill a woman.
Lee was convicted of Murder, Attempted Murder and Assault in 2024. He was sentenced Friday to 25 years to life in prison for the Murder charge and an additional 20 years for the Attempted Murder and Assault charge. The Attempted Murder and Assault sentences will be served at the same time as each other, after Lee completes the Murder sentence, according to Chemung County District Attorney Weeden Wetmore.
An order of protection was also issued against the woman Lee attacked.
