Tioga County, Pa. man dies in barn fire

UNION TOWNSHIP, PA. (WENY) -- A Union Township man is dead after getting trapped inside a burning barn. The blaze happened on Route 414 on Friday, Jan. 17 shortly before 10 p.m.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, 73-year-old Jay Paul Myer was going in and out of the barn to save animals and machinery inside the burning building. At some point, Myer became trapped inside the barn.
When the Canton Fire Department arrived on scene, the building was fully engulfed and crews were unable to perform search and rescue for Myer. His body was recovered inside the barn after the fire was put out.
Police say Myer died due to smoke inhalation and burns.
The investigation into the cause of the fire is still ongoing.
