DAGGETT, P.A. (WENY) -- A Tioga County, Pennsylvania Fire Department is mourning the loss of one of its own today after a death in the line of duty.

Firefighter and rescue captain Roger Lathrop passed away following a medical emergency during a mutual aid response to a structure fire in Sullivan Township at around 1:00 A.M. this morning.

Lathrop was a member of the Big Elm Volunteer Fire Company in Daggett, which serves the townships of Jackson, Wells, and Rutland, along with the borough of Roseville in Tioga County.

"Around 1:03 am this morning Roger was responding with the fire department and while responding with the tanker, suffered a medical emergency and was found by other responders at the station," stated Big Elm Fire Chief Byron Wright in a prepared statement.

Big Elm Volunteer Fire Company is asking the community to keep the members of the department and Roger's family in their thoughts at this time. A statement from Big Elm can be found on their Facebook page.
