Hochul unveils $252B Fiscal Year 2026 Executive Budget
NEW YORK STATE (WENY) -- Governor Kathy Hochul is touting a $252B plan that she says will make New York more affordable and safer.
The 2026 fiscal year budget was unveiled Tuesday. The fiscal year runs from September to September each year. The budget comes with no new income tax increases, and a variety of initiatives that Hochul says will put money back in the pockets of New Yorkers.
The plan includes $370M for gun violence prevention programs, $3B to provide Inflation Refund checks, and $340M to provide free school breakfast and free school lunch for every student in New York, among many other initiatives.
“A budget is more than just numbers on a page – it tells the story of who we are, what we value, and what we’re fighting for. And let me be clear: your family is my fight,” Governor Hochul said. “This year’s budget will put money back in New Yorkers’ pockets and make our streets and subways safer. Working together with my partners in the Legislature, we can get this done and make New York the best place in the country to raise a family.”
This budget is an increase of 3.6% from last years. The State's reserves are currently at $21.1B dollars. The full budget initiatives can be found here.
