ALBANY, N.Y. (WENY) -- In Albany today, political leaders from across the Empire State gathered for Governor Kathy Hochul's State of the State address, outlining plans and proposals for the state going into 2025.

This year's State of the State address looked to build upon last year's accomplishments by outlining a series of ambitious goals aimed to help New Yorkers in all backgrounds.

"Your family is my fight. That has been the inspiration and impetus for everything we have done for the last three years," Hochul said in her opening remarks.

Some of governor Hochul's first points of information touched on putting more money back in the pockets of New Yorkers through increasing the minimum wage to combat inflation, and introducing $3 billion in inflation rebates.

Childcare also took center stage with the mention of the largest proposed child tax credit increase and a one hundred and $10 million commitment to create and repair childcare locations.

Providing free school lunches to New York's 2.7 million students is another proposal looking to help support families statewide.

"But there is another fight I will continue to take on: our State must be livable and safe. My fight for your family also means that New Yorkers feel secure on the streets, on our subways, and in our communities," Hochul added when mentioning the need for safety on public transit and across the state.

Working adults will also be able to pursue state-sponsored educational opportunities at SUNY and CUNY community colleges at no cost to them.

"So let's recap, driving down crime, lowering taxes, investing in childcare and education, jobs, new homes, clean energy, small businesses and building a strong economy that will endure for generations," added Hochul.

The address went over a wide range of issues including infrastructure improvement, environmental sustainability, strengthening agriculture, consumer working protections, and safeguarding clean water resources.

Several responses from opposition Republicans and business leaders have criticized the governor's address on taxation and high insurance premiums.
