Steuben Sheriff Warns Residents of New Scam Calls
STEUBEN CO., N.Y. (WENY) -- The Steuben County Sheriff's office warns residents about increased scam calls in scammers impersonate local law enforcement.
According to Sheriff Jim Allard, scammers are calling residents claiming they missed a court appearance. Victims are told they face charges or will have a warrant issued for their arrest unless they report to the Sheriff's Office, or pay fines through PayPal.
The Sheriff's Office emphasized that they never call to ask for money related to legal matters.
If you receive one of these calls, officials urge you to hang up immediately and report it to law enforcement.
