Steuben Co. Sheriff Warns of Law Enforcement Scam

BATH, NY (WENY) -- The Steuben County Sheriff's office is warning about a rising number of scam phone calls impersonating law enforcement.
Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard says the scam involves someone impersonating law enforcement, and tells the person answering the phone that they have missed a court appearance, are facing charges and would have a warrant issued for their arrest unless they pay their fines via PayPal.
According to the Sheriff's Office, they will never call people and asked for money related to missing a court appearance or any legal matters. They say if you receive such a call, hanging up and report it to law enforcement.
