(WENY) -- Later this week, local Habitat for Humanity organizations are honoring the countless contributions former President Jimmy Carter made to the organization and Habitat homeowners across nearly 40 years.
To honor him locally, Chemung, Schuyler, and Steuben County Habitat for Humanity will raise a wall with a door in it, to symbolize the many doors of opportunity former Pres. Carter helped make possible through his life of service to others.
The public is invited to pay tribute by signing the wall and door with their name or a personal message on January 8th. Assembling the memorial will start at 3 p.m. at the Center Court at the Arnot Mall in Horseheads, with a short memorial service to follow at 4 p.m. The wall will be on display through January 13th.
The wall and door will be used in a future Habitat project.
