Elmira Pioneers host event to help the less fortunate
ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- The Elmira Pioneers hosted their seventh annual Helping the Less Fortunate event in Elmira Tuesday.
Over 200 people attended the give-back which was held from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Family Fitness Center on Pennsylvania Ave. Attendees were given a bag which they filled with hats, coats, gloves, boots, blankets, soap, other essentials and presents. Texas Roadhouse also provided a hot meal for those in need as well.
"My father passed away around eight years ago and we started this event in his honor. It just feels good giving back to the community and we love the community here," said Robbie Nichols, owner of the Elmira Pioneers.
All of the items given to people in need were provided for the event by sponsors of the Elmira Pioneers.
"I travel a lot of miles to come back to Elmira to work this event every year," said Nichols. "We just love giving back to the community... these people need it and I think the people working feel just as good giving them the items."
