WELLSBORO, P.A. (WENY) - Wellsboro standout girls basketball player Chloe Brandenburg is set to compete at the collegiate level. After her final season with the Hornets, Brandenburg will take her talents to the Empire 8 as she signed to play for Houghton College.

Brandenburg has had a stellar high school career with Wellsboro where she led the Hornets in scoring last season, averaging 14.7 points per game, and currently leads the NTL in points scored this season with 90.

Brandenburg will join a Houghton program that is on a roll. The Highlanders are 9-0 overall and are getting votes to be nationally ranked in the latest D3hoops.com women's top 25.

Brandenburg plans to study Exercise Science at Houghton, and she plans on getting her masters in Athletic Training or pursuing a doctorate in Physical Therapy.

After putting pen to paper, Brandenburg talked about the excitement surrounding this next step.

"It's just really special to me because I've worked so hard for it and dreams are possible with hard work and just support from my family, and God has opened these doors for me to be able to play and it's just crazy and awesome," Brandenburg said. "As soon as I stepped on campus it just felt like home and everyone the students and the faculty and the coaches were just so welcoming and there's a piece there that just surpassed all understanding so I just had to go there."

Chloe also took some time to thank those who helped get to this point.

"Definitely my family, Coach Simone, Coach Mike, and then my travel team coaches from Select Prospects and Northern Tier Hawks from Coach Brock Kitchen and just everyone who has just been on my side and just helped me along the way," she said.

Brandenburg and the Wellsboro girls basketball team are 3-1 to start the season. The Hornets will be back in action on December 30th when they travel to Coudersport at 7:30 PM.
