Local veterans bring gifts and care packages to their brothers in arms for the holiday season
HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) -- During the holiday season, several veterans are taking the time to remind their brothers in arms that they are not forgotten. Local veterans from the region and of Corning Incorporated's Corning Veterans Engaged to Support brought gifts to veterans in Horseheads.
Residents at ELCOR and Bethany Village who served in the military received personalized t-shirts, hygiene products, candy, and more.
Santa's elves and a few children even helped to hand out the items to vets. As they wandered around, they wished each veteran a happy holiday season and thanked them for their service.
Some of the C-VETS members say it's important to be able to bring the children out to teach the younger generation about the sacrifices these veterans made for our country.
"It's just nice to let them know we all appreciate what they've done and that they're not forgotten, and we continue to appreciate them as we move forward and keep America strong and great," said Bob Ohl, a Corning Inc. employee and member of C-VETS.
Ohl shared that the t-shirts handed out to fellow veterans were provided and designed by the Chemung County Dwyer Fund and Rainbow Lettering in Elmira.
Additionally, the gifts were able to be bought with money through sponsorships and donations from organizations like the Red Cross, American Legion 443, the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 803, and Sheriff's Extreme Cheer.
