Operation Community Giveback in Elmira takes donations to bring personalized holiday shopping experience to those in need
ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- To bring a little extra love to those in need this holiday season, Runway For A Cause and Le Kim Associates are hosting Operation Community Giveback. The drive will bring these items to the public next week with a little holiday twist.
On Saturday afternoon, people stopped by the Park Church in Elmira to donate clothes, toys, shoes, and more.
Afterward, families were invited into the next room to indulge in snacks, take pictures with Santa, write him a letter to send to the North Pole, and try their hands at various holiday crafts. Some of which included coloring and decorating Christmas cookies. Volunteers dressed as elves also wandered around to keep spirits high.
"This really means a lot to me," said Trey, one of the elves, "I get to hang out, meet new friends, help people. It just makes me happy."
"It also makes me happy because it gives out kindness and love to people," said Hallie, another elf.
Donations filled the church's stage and, in just a few days, it will be set up to the community for a free shopping experience. People are invited to come and shop on Monday, December 23 from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.
"It means the world to me," said Emmi Saufley, the CEO of Runway For a Cause and Le Kim Associates, the organizers of the project. "I love this community and it means a lot to see people come and donate everything and give back out and everyone deserves that bit of joy and the ability to do the things that some are less fortunate to be able to do."
Similar to Saturday's collection event, Saufley says Monday will also serve as a community get-together. Attendees can grab a hot chocolate and spend time with one another.
Also, guests can choose to get their gifts wrapped on-site so that they are ready to go for Christmas morning.
