Troopers: Head-on collision in Barton kills three people
BARTON, N.Y. (WENY) -- Three people are dead and two are injured after a crash on State Route 34 in Barton Friday afternoon, according to New York State Police.
Shortly before 1:30 p.m., a woman driving an SUV north on the roadway with three passengers inside crossed into the opposite lane and hit an oncoming pick-up truck head on, police say.
The driver of the pick-up truck was pronounced dead at the scene. He was a 68-year-old man from Athens, Pa.
Two passengers in the SUV were also killed in the crash. A 41-year-old man from the Bronx was pronounced dead at the scene. Another passenger, a 38-year-old woman, also from the Bronx, was transported to Robert Packer hospital with serious injuries, and later died there. Both passengers killed were in the back seat.
The driver of the SUV, a 42-year-old woman from the Bronx was taken to Robert Packer Hospital in critical condition. A fourth passenger, a 56-year-old Bronx man was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He was sitting in the SUV's front passenger seat.
Police say they have withheld the victims names at this time as they are still notifying next of kin.
New York State Police say they are still investigating the crash.
