Bradford Co. man sentenced for killing pedestrian while driving drunk
TOWANDA, PA. (WENY) -- A Columbia Crossroads man will serve a maximum sentence of over 20 years in prison after being convicted of killing another man on the side of the road while driving drunk, according to the Bradford County District Attorney's Office.
According to State Police, Charles Scott, 39, was driving his truck on S. Main St. in Towanda around 10 p.m. on July 30 and left his lane, hitting a car that was parked on the shoulder of the road. Travis Delamater, 39, who was putting his child in a car seat, was killed after getting hit by Scott. Delamater's 4-year-old and another woman were hurt in the crash. Scott was uninjured.
The Bradford County District Attorney's office says Scott was drinking at a local bar a couple hundred yards away from the accident. Investigators also found a bottle of beer outside of his truck at the scene of the crash.
Scott will serve a minimum of 63 months in state prison. He was found guilty of Homicide by Motor Vehicle While Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, and two charges of Driving Under the Influence.
At the time of the crash, Scott was under investigation for a separate DUI that happened less than a month before the incident. He was found guilty of that offense after an investigation by Athens Police, according to the District Attorney.
