ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- A 31-year-old Elmira man was arrested for allegedly trying to have sex with at least one minor, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of New York.

Jacob Brewer allegedly contacted a 16-year-old girl through social media, gave out his phone number and requested that she text him. Instead, the girl's parent texted Brewer. According to a criminal complaint, Brewer tried to arrange a meeting and sent sexually explicit messages, photos and videos to the parent, who he thought was the minor. He allegedly continued this activity when a New York State Trooper took over the text thread from the parent.

On October 2, investigators took Brewer into custody and seized his phone. According to the indictment, investigators found multiple conversations on various apps with numerous females. Officials allege the conversations were sexual in nature, and many of them are believed to be with minors.

Brewer is charged with attempted enticement of a minor, attempted receipt of child pornography, and attempted possession of child pornography.

If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison.
