Governor Shapiro and Secretary Browne issue reminder about Property Tax and Rent Rebate Program
(WENY) -- Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro issued a reminder to thousands of people who are eligible for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program who haven't applied to do so as soon as possible. The December 31 deadline is rapidly approaching.
According to the Governor's office, the state has already processed over 500,000 rebates totaling more than $311 million this year alone. However, there are still thousands of older adults and people with disabilities who are eligible.
Those who are eligible for the program include Pennsylvanians 60 and older, widows and widowers over the age of 50, and people with disabilities who are aged 18 and older.
Along with Governor Shapiro, Secretary of Revenue, Pat Browne, is also encouraging those who are eligible to apply.
"This program has provided billions of dollars of relief for those who absolutely need it because when costs are going up and your income is not, having assistance like this and recognizing that it's gone up over time to increase the rebate to 1000 dollars is important," said Secretary Browne.
For Pennsylvanians looking to apply, the deadline is December 31.
Secretary Browne added that applications are now being offered in Spanish this year to make the program more accessible.
For more information on the program and how to apply, you can check with your local Department of Revenue district office or local office of the aging.
