ITHACA, N.Y. (WENY) -- As a way to give old and unused art a new home and help local artists, the Community Arts Partnership in Ithaca is hosting its annual CAP-a-Palooza vintage art fundraiser. This year, hundreds of pieces are on the market for low prices.

The collection of the art pieces was held earlier in the month, from December 2 to December 4. Organizers say during those three days, nearly 800 pieces of art were collected, with over 100 people donating. Sales officially began on December 6.

While art was collected from people in the Tompkins County area, not all of the pieces originated there. CAP's Program and Grant Director, Robin Schwartz, says each piece has a story.

"It's kind of like, it's not local art," said Schwartz. "If you look around the room you'll see this is stuff that people have had in their attics or basements or inherited and, I don't know the stories behind the art because it was inherited. It has been living in storage for a long time, so it isn't local art. However, we are encouraging people to re-home and reuse all of this really cool stuff."

Schwartz also added that one donor brought around 100 pieces alone.

A unique aspect of the fundraiser is also the low prices. Many works at the gallery are marked between $5 to $20. Several others marked above that range but only a handful sat at over $100.

Schwartz says prices for the art drop throughout the sale and are slashed for the last few days of the event. She also added that she is ready to bargain with potential buyers.

If you'd like to buy some lower-priced artwork, the fundraiser will continue through Saturday, December 14. Each day, the sale will be held at the CAP location in the Tompkins Center for History and Culture at 110 N Tioga Street on the Ithaca Commons from 12:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M.

All proceeds from the vintage art sale will go right back into CAP's programming to help local artists.
