UPDATE: Friday, Dec. 12th, 12:30 p.m. -- Millport Mayor Michael Damon has confirmed to WENY News that the boil water advisory for the Village has been lifted. According to Damon, the leak was located and fixed, and then the town had two consecutive days of testing to confirm the water is safe to use and drink.

MILLPORT, N.Y. (WENY) -- The Village of Millport issued a boil water notice to residents on Tuesday, Dec. 10th after the Village's distribution system developed a leak that exceeded well capacity. As a result, the Village has been unable to maintain what they call a safe level of water in the storage tank.

The notice applies to all customers of the Millport Water System.

That means there has been a loss of pressure, which not only makes it easier for untreated water and dangerous bacteria to enter the water supply, but it also means that some higher elevation locations in the Village might deal with a loss of pressure.

According to the Village, water should be boiled for one minute and left to cool before using before using for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth and preparing food.

While the leak has been located and repairs are underway, Village officials warn the advisory may be in effect for at least the next five days.
