Bicyclist dies after Friday night collision in Horseheads
UPDATE 3:45 p.m. (11/19): The bicyclist who was seriously hurt in a Friday night crash in the Town of Horseheads died due to his injuries Tuesday, according to the Chemung County Sheriff's Office.
Law enforcement identified the victim as Marvin Stuart, a 67-year-old man from Horseheads. Stuart was wearing a reflective coat and riding in the bicycle lane, he was not wearing a helmet, according to police.
The Chemung County Sheriff's Office says Stuart turned in front of a car without warning, which caused the crash. No charges were filed against the driver who hit Stuart. The driver is a man from Corning, who was not hurt in the incident.
HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) -- The Chemung County Sheriff's Office is investigating a serious crash involving a motor vehicle and bicyclist in the Town of Horseheads Friday Night.
The collision happened on Grand Central Avenue at Hemlock Street. According to deputies, both the vehicle and the bicycle were traveling northbound when the bicyclist, for unknown reasons, turned into the path of the vehicle.
Authorities say the bicyclist sustained serious injuries. They were taken for medical treatment at Arnot Ogden Medical Center and later airlifted to Robert Packer Hospital for further treatment.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Authorities say additional details will be released as the investigation continues.
