CORNING, N.Y. (WENY) -- In Corning, the Steuben County Democratic Committee held a watch party in anticipation of race results.

Democrats had an unprecedented election season, with President Joe Biden dropping out of the race, and Vice President Kamala Harris stepping up to the plate.  The Steuben County Democratic Committee says they've been working hard to campaign for their candidates, both nationally and locally.

With the possibility of the first female president on the horizon, the committee was rooting for the Harris-Walz ticket.

"It's extremely encouraging to know that our country is probably ready for this moment, even if at the end, it's been neck and neck the whole time, regardless of the outcome. The number of votes and the amount of enthusiasm that we've seen for Kamala Harris has demonstrated that our country is ready for a woman to lead, and that is very encouraging, I think, especially for the next generation of women and, in particular, women of color," said Margie Lawlor, the Co-Chair of the Steuben County Democratic Committee.

Lawlor said the committee was anxiously waiting results, and keeping hope alive.
