Bath Police: Man beaten over Trump campaign hat

BATH, N.Y. (WENY) -- A man from Bath is charged with assault after he allegedly attacked another man who was wearing a Trump 2024 hat in the grocery store, according to the Bath Village Police Department.
The incident happened at the Bath Tops on West Morris Street around 10 a.m. on Nov. 1, between 60-year-old Robert Yott, from Bath, and the victim. Police say Yott approached the person wearing the Trump hat inside the store and became aggressive, punching the victim multiple times in the mouth and head, breaking their teeth and leaving their mouth bloody.
Police say the two people did not know each other, and this was a random act of violence.
Yott is charged with Assault in the Second Degree and Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree. He is currently waiting arraignment in the Steuben County Jail.
